Uncorking a new adventure.
Uncorking a bottle of wine is like opening a book. You get to explore the story of how it was created, but through using all five senses. That’s what makes tasting locally produced, private label wines so unique. With holiday dinners and gatherings coming up, now’s the perfect time to dive into Oklahoma’s family-owned wineries. We’ll be taking you through the Adventure Road-approved wineries, tasting rooms and vineyards that have way more to offer than what you’ll find in the bottle.
Waters Edge Winery
This family-owned winery offers 30+ wines, all made locally with the world’s finest grapes sourced from places like California, Italy, France, New Zealand, Chile and Germany. Each wine is blended, fermented, oaked, racked, filtered and bottled at the Waters Edge facility! You can stop in for bottles of popular varietals like Merlots, Cabs and Chardonnays, or pick up some that can be much harder to find like Barolos, Gewurztraminers, Pinotages, Petit Verdot and Ports. Its mission is to offer you the opportunity to embrace your palate, and there’s plenty of ways for you to do so!
$6 Tasting Flights
That’s right! Waters Edge has four flight options, from sweet wines, whites, reds and the perfect trio, and prices start at just $6. The menu boasts an impressive selection of every varietal imaginable. Each is handcrafted, like the 712, a dry Italian Pinot Grigio with flavors of tropical fruit, peach and a hint of spice, named for the Waters Edge building on 712 North Broadway. Winery doors are open Wednesday through Sunday, and reservations aren’t required! Want free wine tastings? Join the Wine Club.
Craft your own custom wine
Be your own winemaker and create your own private vintage of wine you can later bottle, cork and customize with your own label. With help from the team, you’ll then receive approximately 25-27 bottles after the 5-7 weeks it takes to complete. Winemakers with more immediate needs can partake in the condensed “Adopt-A-Grape” program. This is a great opportunity for holiday gifts, birthday parties, weddings, Save the Dates, restaurants and businesses. Plus, you’ll have a blast bottling, corking and labeling your creation. Feel free to bring friends, family and food!
As a family owned and operated boutique vineyard, Waddell Vineyards has the special ability to put a personal touch on every visitor’s experience. Since 2007, when owners Robert and Debbie Waddell decided to plant a vineyard on their 15-acre property, making wine has become so much more than a hobby to share with friends and family. This unique venue has grown from a one-acre vineyard to seven acres, with a winery, tasting room, a wedding chapel and a rustic event barn. Visitors are invited to enjoy the picturesque view with a tasting, pick up a bottle, join classes or host your big day here. Waddell Vineyards is open Monday through Saturday by appointment only, so be sure to call before visiting!
Paint classes and special events
Waddell’s spacious event barn is the perfect space for socially distanced fun with a group of friends. Most popular are the Sip & Swirl paint classes, which come with all the supplies and step-by-step instructions from a local artist. Throw in some wine, beer or a margarita and you’re bound for a good time! Keep an eye on Waddell’s event page for future announcements. The next class will take place November 17, and it’s holiday themed!
Beautiful wedding and event venue
Not only are the Waddell Vineyards grounds a beautiful spot to enjoy an evening of great wines and calm ambiance, it’s also the perfect spot for weddings and special events. The charming chapel can accommodate 185 guests inside or you can opt for a beautiful outdoor wedding with up to 200 guests. The tastefully rustic barn is set up with a large reception area, bar, kitchen, facilities and upstairs honeymoon suite to complete the big day. Waddell Vineyards can give you the scenic landscapes and work with you to transform your vision into reality.
The Rusty Nail Winery and Tasting Room
What began as a passion project has blossomed into an integral part of the historic downtown Sulphur commerce district. Originally constructed in 1906, the building itself is older than the state of Oklahoma and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Inspired by a bucket of rusty nails left by the very first tenants, owners Debbie and Melissa chose to honor the building’s history by naming it The Rusty Nail Winery and Tasting Room. Now the mother-daughter duo is celebrating 10 years of successfully producing privately labeled wines and hosting a variety of recurring and signature events like Cork & Canvas, Teacher Tuesdays, Wine & Game Night, Sip & Shop and much more.
Shop, sip and relax
Whether you stop in or shop online, you’ll find everything you need to uncork and unwind at The Rusty Nail. The shop is filled with a collection of wine-themed gifts that are perfect for the wine lover in your life. The tasting room is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-8 p.m. and offers visitors the chance to explore exclusive wines by the taste, by the glass or by the bottle. It’s always great to pair a little food with wine, and luckily The Rusty Nail Bistro serves up yummy appetizers and light fare. Most popular are the spinach artichoke dip, chicken salad sandwich and cheese platters. It’s always a good lunch option even if you aren’t drinking!
Adventure around every corner
The Rusty Nail’s prime location is only a stone’s throw away from some incredible local attractions. The ARTesian Gallery & Studios and The Artesian Hotel, Casino & Spa are just a block away. As is the entrance to the Chickasaw National Recreation Area! If your next getaway leads you to Sulphur, The Rusty Nail could be the ideal place to unwind after the exciting times you’ll have at Cross Bar Offroad Park, Arbuckle Trail Rides, the Lake of the Arbuckles or the other Arbuckle Mountain destinations that are on your itinerary.
